Where the promenade starts and how to reach us
The promenade begins at the Arch of Hadrian, by the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and climbs gently west. It passes the Acropolis Museum, the entrance to the south slope of the Acropolis, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and Filopappou Hill, and ends at Thissio and the Ancient Agora. Two kilometres of marble paving, cafés, street musicians and the Parthenon above you the whole way.
From the eastern end by Hadrian's Arch, our lockers are a four-minute walk: cross Syngrou Avenue, follow Athanasiou Diakou for a block and turn into Lempesi. From the museum stretch of the promenade, walk down Makrygianni Street for three minutes. Either way you arrive at Lempesi 11.
The promenade is at its best in the early morning and in the hour before sunset. Both fit our opening hours: drop your bags from 9:00, watch the sunset from Filopappou Hill, and collect them before 22:00.

What you pass along Dionysiou Areopagitou
Walking west from Hadrian's Arch, you pass the Acropolis Museum with its glass floor over the ancient neighbourhood (3 minutes from the lockers), then the Weiler Building and the south slope entrance to the Acropolis with the Theatre of Dionysus. Next comes the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, where the summer festival concerts are held. Then the paths up Filopappou Hill for the classic view of the Parthenon, and finally Thissio and the Ancient Agora.
Count two to three hours for the whole promenade with the Acropolis, or a relaxed hour if you only walk it. With a locker for the day you can do it in the morning, come back through Plaka for lunch, and still have the afternoon.

Questions travellers ask
Is Dionysiou Areopagitou open to cars?
No, it is fully pedestrian from Hadrian's Arch to Thissio. That is also why there is nowhere to leave luggage along it: our lockers at Lempesi 11 are four minutes from the eastern end.
How long is the walk from the promenade to the Acropolis entrance?
The south slope entrance is on the promenade itself, next to the Theatre of Dionysus, about five minutes from the museum. The main entrance on the west side is ten minutes further along.
